Baťková, Markéta ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Janáková Kuprová, Barbora (referee)
Application of demographic analysis in human resources management: A Case study on elite floorball players Abstract This bachelor's thesis focuses on the possibilities of how to apply demographic analysis in the field of human resources management. Part of the work is also a case study which focuses on elite floorball players. The goal of this thesis is to introduce the concept of human resource management in general and to describe the possibilities of applying demographic analysis to other than just ordinary human populations on a theoretical level. The objectives of the case study include, among other things, demonstrating the different career times between men and women. The case study uses individual data of the 100 historically best male floorball players and 100 historically best female floorball players in the Czech Republic. Among the main methods used in demography and human resource management and also in sports are the construction of life tables and survival analysis. In the case study, statistically significant differences were found in the duration of the careers between men and women and in the average ages at the end of the career and in the average ages of achieving indivually best season. Social mobility of elites in the second half of the 19th century
Vlasák, Filip ; Velková, Alice (advisor) ; Klečacký, Martin (referee)
Social mobility of elites in the second half of the 19th century Abstract This thesis deals with the social mobility of senior civil servants in a very dynamic period in terms of the development of political administration in the lands of the Bohemian Crown, namely in the second half of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The aim of the thesis is to analyse and describe the change in the structure of civil servants according to their social origin, to statistically determine the significant factors that influenced the age of a civil servant when he or she first took up the post of district captain and to determine whether this age was prolonged during the period under study. The analysis was conducted using data from the EXPRO 2020 research database. The results show that officials with influential social backgrounds were almost twice as likely to become district governors at a younger age than officials from lower social class backgrounds. The main results of the paper are formulated in the conclusion, which in addition to the above, discusses what effect marrying a wife from an influential background had on an official's social mobility, or how long it took an official to climb the career ladder to become a district captain after successfully graduating from university, and what factors may...
The population in the Central Bohemian manor of Škvorec from the middle of the 18th to the end of the 19th century. Knowledge gained using traditional and advanced methods of historical demography and methods of historical sociology.

The population in the Central Bohemian manor of Škvorec from the middle of the 18th to the end of the 19th century. Abstract The aim of this study is to analyze the reproductive behavior (nuptiality, natality, female and male fertility, mortality) and the social structure of selected groups of the population of the Škvorec manor in the 18th and 19th century. The Škvorec manor which is located in the territory of today's Central Bohemia was an important agricultural area in given period. The complete nominal excerpts from parish registers were used to find numbers of all births, marriages and deaths. In addition to traditional historical- demography methods (especially the family reconstitution method and subsequent calculation of demographic indicators from family leaves), advanced statistical methods (survival analysis, Cox regression model) were also used for data analysis. These approaches are new in Czech historical demography and bring many advantages, which are presented in the work. The natural change of population development at the manor is compared with the Czech lands as a whole and in more detail with selected rural and urban localities. The results mostly correspond with the population development which was observed in the Czech lands. The number of inhabitants of the manor in the years...
Determinants of the circulatory system diseases among the Czech population
Lustigová, Michala
Determinants of circulatory system diseases among the Czech population Abstract The determinants of circulatory system diseases are very well known, modifiable risk factors and factors widely spread among populations are in focus for the public health research. The aim of this thesis is a quantification of main cardiovascular risk factors in the Czech population using the survival analysis and HAPIEE cohort data. The epidemiologic situation, trends in the Czech population health including "the cardiovascular revolution" is discussed in the first part of the thesis. Among the Czech population high prevalence of many risk factors were found. The education had the strongest impact on cardiovascular health from sociodemographic characteristics. The negative effect of smoking, prevalence of high blood pressure, prevalence of diabetes and physical inactivity was confirmed. On the other hand the impact of obesity, binge drinking and high blood cholesterol level was not significant among the Czech population. The population approach in cardiovascular epidemiology and cardiovascular health promotion as well are discussed in the last chapter. Keywords: diseases of the circulatory system, mortality, health transition, cardiovascular health, risk factors, survival analysis, health promotion

Thermoregulation in ant genus Formica, an individual vs. colony conflict
Kadochová, Štěpánka ; Frouz, Jan (advisor) ; Dauber, Jens (referee) ; Domisch, Timo (referee)
This thesis deals with thermoregulation in red wood ants, in Formica rufa group. Our aim was to better understand the mechanisms by which red wood ants maintain thermal homeostasis in their nests. Red wood ants are known to keep high and stable temperatures in their nests from spring to autumn. Most emphasis is placed on the role of the nest mound as a solar collector or on a heat production by microbial community present in the nest material. However, some researchers believe that wood ants are able of active nest thermoregulation in which they can affect the nest temperature by behavioural reactions, mainly by sun basking, increased metabolic heat production or heat transport. The thesis consists of three research articles. The first one is focused on the timing of thermoregulation in red wood ants, the second one investigates in more detail one specific aspect of red wood ant thermoregulation - a sun basking behaviour. These two papers provide data from long-term field observations and experiments. The last paper is based on laboratory experiments where we tested a hypothesis resulting from field observations. Thanks to the field research we found out that ant activity (traffic on ant trails) significantly correlates with nest temperature; once the activity decreased the thermal homeostasis...

The Analysis of Clients of Selected Retirement Homes in Prague and in South-Bohemian Region in terms of Selected Demographic Characteristics
Kristen, Michal ; Burcin, Boris (advisor) ; Rybová, Kristýna (referee)
The Analysis of Clients of Selected Retirement Homes in Prague and in South-Bohemian Region in terms of Selected Demographic Characteristics Abstract The aim of the work is firstly to ascertain and compare the number of beds in retirement houses in the area of capital city Prague and in the South-Bohemian Region, secondly to characterize the clients in retirement houses according to their age, sex and marital status and thirdly to carry out the mortality analysis of clients in selected retirement houses. The Register of Social Service Providers, which is operated by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, was used to find out the number of beds. To characterize the clients in retirement houses the descriptive demographic analysis was utilized and in the case of age it was the comparison with real population in corresponding region. The mortality analysis was worked out with the help of Kaplan-Meier method. Through the conducted research of mortality analysis it was find out that the quality of provided services does not decline with the higher capacity in retirement houses, even more the services are so quality that the clients in those retirement houses reach on the average higher age. Unambiguous differences in facilities between South-Bohemian Region and the capital city Prague result from the...
Residents of retirements homes in region of Zlín in point of demographic view
Lukácsová, Hana ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (referee)
Residents of retirements homes in region of Zlín in point of demographic view Abstract Presented work introduces the law no. 108/2006 on social services that determines retirements homes as one of the facilities providing social services. The capacity of these facilities in the Zlín region is evaluated with the help of availability indices and facility normatives. More detailed attention was drawn to an analysis of age, gender, former permanent address and dependence degree of residents in selected retirement homes. This part of the research is based on data provided by five retirement homes in Zlín region. Obtained data was evaluated with the Kaplan-Meier method in order to estimate surviving function for these clients. The resemblance was tested employing the determination of the null hypothesis by log-rank test or Wilcoxon test. Keywords: ageing, residents of retirements homes, law on social services, survival analysis
